My grandpa made a white cot

Some time ago I was doing some cleaning at the attic in my house. I found there something that brought back some memories form the time when I was a kid. It was an old cot mattress. It is connected with my very first memories and it has been in my family since fifty years now. My grandpa who was a soldier during the second world war made it by his own hands and he was the one who painted it white. My mother told me that he made it when my grandma was pregnant with her. It was the first gift my mom received. She was only three days old when she was put in the cot mattress. When she got older and she was pregnant with me my grandpa repainted the cot and it became my first bed. I remember when I was very little kid that I use to tried to somehow get out from the cot and once I even felt out of it. The cot was also present in the room of my younger brother when he was born and it served him well. It became a part of our family and it was a tradition to repaint it white and to give it to the younger member of our family. My son was sleeping in it for almost first five years of his life and when he was to big for it we put it at the attic. I must say that one day I will give it to my son and he will repaint it white and he will put his first child into it. The tradition lives on in our family and we did not forget about the cot mattress that my grandfather made long time ago.
